Common questions

What is age grading?

Age grading compares your time with the best on record for your age and gender at that distance, as a percentage. It lets a 60-year-old's 5K be compared fairly with a 30-year-old's: the same percentage means an equally strong performance for the age.

What is a good age-grade percentage?

Over 60% is local class, over 70% regional class, over 80% national class and over 90% world class; 100% is the best performance on record for your age. Most recreational racers score between 40% and 60%.

What is an age-graded time?

The time you'd have run at your peak age with the same relative performance: your time multiplied by your age factor. It's handy for comparing yourself with runners of any age.

Which age-grading tables does this use?

The 2025 road running age standards by Alan Jones and Tom Bernhard, approved by USATF Masters Long Distance Running in January 2025, with the men's mile revised in July 2025. They're published under a CC0 public domain dedication.
